Then Crown Prince. He was very active sailing and racing his famous 22 Sq. Meter, "Teddy" in the late 20’s. (A bit of trivia... it is well known in Norway that the King was very fond of the Norwegian cigarette ... also named "Teddy".)
His boat was re-discovered in the 1980’s and was being restored last I heard of it. My own 22 Sq. Meter - then named "Irina IV" - was raced extensively by it’s first owner, Georg von Erpecom, against the Crown Prince in his "Teddy". King Olav eventually changed to Meter boats when these were chosen as the Olympic and World Championship classes (he was a gold medalist and top competitor to his death). But he pointed his son, Norway’s present day King Harald, towards a 12½ Sq. Meter boat as his first competition boat. Queen Sonia was also a 12½ Sq. Meter sailor. The background picture on the prior page is of Crown Prince Harald in his 12 1/2 Square Meter "Fram". "Fram" is still an active competition boat.
